Partridge Island Red is an Irish Red Ale featuring a complex malty backbone that uses modern malt and classic hops to revive the historical taste of a classic Irish Red. This is a home brew staple. Popular because of the drinkability, balance and smooth creamy finish. Not done well often on a large commercial scale, but a stand out beer when brewed in small batches to let the complex ingredients fuse together perfectly.

There is no skimping on ingredients in the complex grain bill. The recipe is designed to layer modern malts that simulate historical malting techniques. One of our first beer boxes that has been a hit, but we left unreleased until we could test it again and again to dial in the malt profile. Although this style can be made simply, this recipe makes use of modern malting techniques, specific target malts and heritage base malts to produce a beer like no other. It is finished with a kiss of roasted barley to deepen the colour and give a slight acrid bite of bitterness that helps the beer finish dry and gets you ready for the next sip.

The dry bite is finished with additions of traditional Fuggle hops to give the delicate roasted flavours an earthy and classic undertone that does not overpower the malt, but acts to limit the sweetness so the beer remains easy to drink and refreshing.

Partridge Island was a safe landing zone for Irish immigrants on the east coast of Canada. The tiny island lies connected to Saint John by a man made break wall that is illegal to cross. Several immigrants perished while quarantining on the island due to disease, but those who lived planted deep roots that still have a great impact on Saint John and surrounding communities.
Irish brewing traditions as well as ingredients also made their way to the area and still remain popular today. This style still is popular around the region with craft beer enthusiasts, but sometimes hard to find.

This beer is best drunk fresh listening to Celtic music eating Shepard’s Pie. Easy to brew, easy to enjoy, affordable and will please even your harshest critic - you.
